HIGHLANDS EXPERIENCE

​Highlands of Harcourt Wilderness Retreat is an exclusive opportunity to experience rugged off-the-grid living in ​the Canadian wilderness. Your stay will be fully catered and guided by a team of professionals.

Upon arrival at the site you will be welcomed by head guide Jeremy who will introduce you to the property
and work with you to tailor the itinerary to your preferences. Prior experience is not required for any activities —
our team will ensure you have the necessary training beforehand. You will be served 3 meals a day:
hot breakfast, picnic lunch, and gourmet dinner, all accommodating your dietary needs.

Arrival & Check-In​

Arrivals are expected between noon and 3pm. The property is accessed by a 1km private driveway up a hill. Our team will check you in at the first gate. Depending on the weather conditions, ATVs may be sent to transport you and your luggage to the lodging area.

Plan Your Itinerary

Every Highlands experience is uniquely catered to the guests, and begins with an orientation from the professional staff. Depending on your interests and skill level, your guide will work with you to create the ideal itinerary. A sample itinerary is below.

All Season Activities

Hiking

You can hike for over 5km on our well-established trail system throughout the property. Passing from deciduous forest, through wetland and coniferous forest, the highland has a diverse ecosystem to explore.

Paddling

Our small pond and private Dead Horse Lake are an ideal place to learn to canoe with one of our ‘Swift’ Kevlar expedition canoes. Learn the techniques to feel comfortable enough to venture further in nature of your future endeavors.

Nature Viewing

Densely populated with birds and mammals, HHWR is a great place to see deer, moose, fox and a whole host of birds. Fresh tracks on the trail tell of the frequent visits the property has by animals large and small, perhaps you can even spot the tracks of our elusive feline visitor!

Stargazing

With a ‘Dark Sky’ rating of approximately 2 on the Bortle scale we are truly blessed with extremely limited light pollution making it a great location to see the stars. Bring your telescope to enjoy the open viewing from Dead Horse Lake that provides a 360 degree view and endless stars in all 4 cardinal directions.

Fishing

Known to the locals to hide some great trout, Dead Horse Lake offers a private lake to try your luck at fishing right on property. We also have a few prime locations off site for those looking to focus on fishing.

Rock Climbing (Guided)

Right on site at the property we have a small cliff for rock climbing. With beginner routes and more difficult options, we have enough to keep you challenged and enjoying the climbing. We can teach you the basics right up to the more technical climbing skills such as removable gear placement and lead climbing.

UTV Ride (Guided)

Mobility challenged or just looking to explore the trails and landscape without the effort? Our 6-seater Viking UTV is a beast, and our driver can take up to 5 passengers for a tour of the property in the comfort of the ‘Bush Limo’.

Archery (Guided)

We supply the bow and arrows and provide you with a small archery range to safely enjoy this fun activity. From children to adults, our equipment selection ensures everyone can give archery a try.

Mountain Biking

Highlands of Harcourt has a completely private system of trails which can be used for mountain biking. Either guided or unguided, our trails are perfect to experience extreme mountain biking.

Winter Activities

Skating and Pond Hockey

Our small pond has been cleared and flooded for use as a skating and pond hockey rink. Grab your skates and enjoy a national pastime!

Cross Country Skiing

We have over 5 km of ski trails groomed for Classic and Skate style skiing. With terrain ranging from flat lake and pond looks to challenging 'punchy hills,' the highlands have something for everyone.

Wildlife Spotting

Densely populated with birds and mammals, HHWR is a great place for nature enthusiasts! Fresh tracks in the snow tell of frequent visits from deer, moose, fox, and various winter birds.

Snowshoeing

From following the path to exploring off-trail, there are endless possibilities across the 200 acres of varied terrain.

Ice Fishing

Known to house some great trout, the private lake is perfect for ice fishing. 'Micro huts' are positioned to provide shelter on windier days and at 4'x6' they have room for up to 4 people.

ATV Adventure

Looking to explore the trails and landscape without the effort? Our 6-seater Viking ATV on tracks is great for touring the property. Our 'Bush Limo' driver can take 5 passengers along at a time.

Polar Bear Dip

Whether for the health benefits of cold-water immersion or simply for the bragging rights, a polar bear fits the bill. Our warm fire and heated hut will be ready for you after your icy plunge.

Hiking

If skis and snowshoes aren't your thing, our groomed trails are great for walking through the winter wonderland without sinking in the snow.

Star Gazing

With a 'Dark Sky' rating of 2 on the Bottle Scale, this is the perfect spot for star gazing. Enjoy open viewing from the cabin or the lake, providing a 360 degree view and endless stars.
